Pelican Beach Restauant Review

While in Dangriga the other day we decided to celebrate our anniversary's with lunch at Pelican Beach Resort and Restaurant.  One the northern edge of the town on the beach, Pelican Beach is quite and secluded from the hustle and bustle of town.

Nice cool breeze blowing on the covered patio area.

Lunch was very good

Tasty and served with attention to the visual

Oh so happy

And very good both in quality and fair quantity for the price

For sure when you want to take some time for a break while in Dangriga, and go up on the luxury scale, this is a must do!  I copied the menu below but it is a little hard to read as I could get a PDF to come out right...(Lunch menu didn't show.  I'll invite Pelican to comment and put in if they want),

Calypso Rose and Lord Rayburn Concert at the Bliss Center

Saturday night, July 13, 2013 in Belize memories returned and new ones made for many as Calypso Rose and Lord Rhaburn took the stage at the Bliss Center. Rose and Rhaburn has been very instrumental in keeping Belizeans moving to the rhythms of Calypso for many September Celebrations in Belize. History was made as they rocked the stage and entertaind Belizeans and friends of Belize once again

The "band of happiness"  Gilharry 7 Band led things off and provided band for Rose and Rayburn.

LORD RAYBURN
Lord Rhaburn has almost indescribable importance for Belizean music. Short of some imaginary combination of Elvis and James Brown, he has no North American equivalent. His combo, including Herman Bennet, George Matthews, Cecil Gillette, and Carlton Usher, tore up the Belize City nightlife with their unique blend of island sounds, as well as the popular form of Bruckdown (roughly “broken down calypso”), which originated as a primitive percussion style in the logging camps of the colony that was once known as British Honduras.

CALYPSO ROSE

REAL NAME:

  McArtha Linda Sandy-Lewis
DATE OF BIRTH:
April 27, 1940
PLACE OF BIRTH:
Bethel, Tobago
EDUCATION:
San Juan Government School
CAREER: Born into a large family, Rose was sent to live with an aunt in Trinidad when she was nine years old. However, while growing up in Tobago, she had begun singing calypsoes and her interest in singing continued while attending school in Trinidad. In 1957, she began her calypso career at the Original Young Brigade Tent and went on to become the first female calypsonian to win a national title when she took the Road March Crown in 1977 with "Tempo." She returned in 1978 to take both the Calypso Crown ("Her Majesty" and "I Thank Thee") and the Road March title ("Soca Jam") thus becoming the first calypsonian to win both crowns in the same year. Because of her success, the name of the title was changed from Calypso King to Calypso Monarch in 1978. She later moved to California, USA, and appeared in shows with famous American entertainers such as Michael Jackson, Harry Belafonte, and Roberta Flack. Rose's career has taken her to many parts of the world, including Belize, Chile, and many of the Scandinavian and African countries.

New Resteraunt in Santa Cruz

Went to visit the new "Delicious" restaurant in Santa Cruz.  Ming, the former owner of Ming's grocery across from the police station, and his wife own and operate this new bar restaurant.  Phone number to order take out is 607-5577 and 637-4247

Nice new building looks good in the Village.  On the corner past Happy Ranch

Food is typical basic village working class restaurant.  Fried shrimp, chicken, fried rice, chow mien, etc.  Prices were decent.  $15bz for large plate of fried shrimp and french fries.  There was about a one and half dozen shrimp.  Will try the chicken as that's a take-out food I like to pick up once in a while.

Several basic tables and chairs, sound system, full bar and two pool tables.Ming told me more furnishings and more menu items to come.

For a decent no-frills meal at budget end prices was pretty good.  Good location for stopping off when doing business along the hwy towns and villages.  Also a quick ride for those in Riversdale and Caribbean way as the drive avoids all the curves and speed bumps along Placencia road.  If you go that way, be sure to stop off and visit Suzy and Kenny's grocery (formerly of Maya beach).
